Have our winter dreams finally arrived? Does the brand new Snow (default feature in X-Plane 12 with the other seasons) with Ortho4xp, Vstates (ortho) and Orbx True Earth? (Vstates = ortho4xp) In this video we have a little test. I used 🤍bristol628 's Vstates ortho Washington at KSEA to test the ortho4xp part - the result should apply to ALL ortho generated files. And I tested it in 🤍OrbxOfficial 's lovely True Earth - GB in this case at EGNX. You can either activate snow manually via the IOS (pressing I) like above, or do it in the flight configuration window. Or, of course, by following the real world weather when it snows! Keep in mind that this is using X-Plane 12 “EARLY ACCESS” (12.00b3). No scenery enhancement add-on is used. This 6-minute video cycles through all of X-Plane’s Graphics Settings. With every graphics attribute, each of its setting is shown with transition from minimum to maximum quality. The purpose is to illustrate the benefit vs. cost (in frame rate) of the available options. The screenshots are labeled with the setting at time of capture, along with an average FPS. A percentage value is also displayed, it shows the FPS reduction for that setting relative to the baseline. For instance, a -10% would indicate the particular quality option was running with a 10% FPS reduction compared to with the slider positioned at its far left (minimum quality). This provides a rough estimate for the cost of the setting. Be aware that the FPS delta comparison you see here is hardware-dependent. You may notice that the effects of some of the settings are not very distinguishable, perhaps because I just couldn’t come up with the suitable scenarios to highlight the features. I measured the FPS with a FlyWithLua script. The result is an average taken during a minimum run of 30 seconds, with the sim paused. You may occasionally notice a slight FPS uptick as complexity increases. The only explanation I can offer is that it’s due to random CPU-load fluctuation. Hey... I never knew this :) When the temperature is below 0°C, the rain turns into snow in X-plane. And if it is windy enough, you also get the "gusts of snow" on the tarmac :D Too bad the ground textures are always as if it was summer all year round. Now all that is needed is that someone builds a plugin that automatically (based on time of year & location) changes the default ground textures to the ones available at 🤍 and voilà!

if you're wondering why I've been dead for the past several days, here's why Takeoff at 11:15 NOTE: The view you see is my right eye. Within the oculus headset, the resolution that I see is significantly different (and better) than what you see in the video; what you see in this video is what is seen through my right eye and enlarged (which decreases the quality). The black edges that appear whenever I turn rapidly are much exaggerated within this video than with the actual headset on after all, take a relatively small image, and scale it up drastically and you'll begin to see every nick-and-knack possible (which happened here). During the recording of this, I never noticed the sidebars nor poor quality (despite that I lowered my X-Plane settings to increase performance).
